CAF CL: Coach Agbor Ernest & Vereloh MacGregor Fancy Chances Against Ahly

Cotonsport ace Agbor Ernest and midfeilder Veraloh Mcgregor spoke positively ahead of their crucial delayed game day one encounter against Egyptian juggernauts, Al Ahly in the TotalEnergies CAF champions league on Saturday.

The two were present in the team’s pre-match presser, prior to their clash against Al Ahly.

The Cottonites are on the back of two defeats but a win against 10-time champions league winners — Ahly could quickly change things around in group B.

Addressing media experts at the game’s venue in the Al-Salam stadium in Cairo, McGregor sounded optimistic despite the difficult task at hand.

‘It’s true Al Ahly SC is a great club, which we respect, but that doesn’t mean that playing them makes us scared.

‘We are very well prepared for the game, and I and my teammates wish to get the first three points in this competition, so as to get the machine going again,’ The erstwhile YOSA creative midfeilder ended. McGregor has not had a chance to start yet but he contributed off the bench against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Quizzed on the team’s chances of going through in group B, co-coach Agbor Ernest uttered: ‘ We hope for qualification but we need to get at least a win here.’

Ahly and Cotonsport occupy the 3rd and fourth places in group B respectively, and there is no room for error on either side.

Al Ahly started their campaign on a poor footing with defeat to Hilal on game day two. The Egyptians drew 2-2 against Sundowns on game day 3, and they are in dire need of three points against Cotonsport – to get their campaign back on track.

Cotonsport lost 3-1 to Sundowns in the Roumde Adjia stadium on game day one, and 2-1 to Hilal a week later on the same venue.

Cotonsport are yet to win against Al Ahly in the competition. The 17-time Cameroon champions have been only been able to record 3 draws, out of 8 games played.
