CAF CL: Haman asks Coton Stakeholders to learn from superiors
Coach Gabriel Haman told media professionals prior to the Cotonsport against Ahly game billed for Friday, in game day 5 of the TotalEnergies CAF champions league that, Cotonsport must learn from it’s superiors.
Elite One holders Cotonsport of Garoua are on a shocker of 4 TotalEnergies CAF champions league defeats, and coach Gabriel Haman has pointed out that it wouldn’t be a bad idea, if the club’s management exchanged with top teams to reach that height.
“There are realities we found out in the TotalEnergies CAF champions league, which does not resemble the CAF Confederation cup. It is a top level. We missed it from our first game – which put pressure on our players.
“We have to look at what other top teams are doing and try to implement so as to grow,” the latter stated before Cotonsport’s clash against Ahly on March 17.
Gabriel Haman and his backroom staff are under enormous pressure after constant drubbings in the hands of the three other teams in group B.
The ‘thinkerman’ is mindful of the poor results, but to his defense, the trainer aired;
“When a team is being constructed and the best players leave, this is what we get. However, I wouldn’t say I am totally disappointed with our performances. The lads are giving their best.”
In all competitions, Cotonsport are on a losing streak of 6 games which has left Haman is a compromising position, as stakeholders watch closely with palms close to the eject button.
The 2022 double winning coach has dismissed any question of pressure as the adrenaline heightens.
“The results are not good, it is left for the stakeholders to make a decision. We are however not badly placed in the league. Two straight wins and we could regain control of the championship. We attained the objective of this competition which was to reach the group stage.”
Cotonsport made their return to the CAF champions league this season, but fell in group B which was labelled the group of death with over 100 domestic championships between four teams.
The Garoua-based outfit has not been able to keep pace, after falling short in the first four games with just two goals scored and 10 conceded.
Cotonsport could have a say on the final outcome in group B when the red carpet is rolled out at the 25,000 capacity Roumde Adjia stadium, with Kohler and his Ahly side desperate for maximum points, as they play catch-up to Hilal, who are on 9 points.
