CAF CL: Kabylie Pip Defending Champions Wydad 1-0

After their goalless draw against Petro Luanda last week, JS Kabylie recovered on Friday evening in the CAF Champions League. The Algerian team beat Wydad Casablanca 1-0.

The match was played at the Olympic Stadium 5 July 1962 in Algiers. At home, JSK almost leapfrogged WAC to avoid another goalless draw after the one brought back from Angola. Determined to defend their status as a great team in this pool A, Kabylie ended up winning the points of the match.

The victory came thanks to a last minute goal (87th), scored by Algerian defender Badreddine Souyad. It was the Algerians’ first goal after two games in the competition at the group stage this season.

It takes Kabylie top of Group A, with 4 points, ahead of Petro Luanda who are on one point. Fooloi behind, are AS Vita Club and Wydad Athletic Club who have not yet taken a point, each also having one game less.

This is another disappointment for the WAC, defending champion of the African Champions league. The Moroccans are coming off a setback at the 2022 FIFA Club World Cup played this year in Morocco. They were eliminated in the second round of the tournament by the Saudis of Al-Hilal, beaten in the final by the great Real Madrid
