CAF CL: Sundowns beat Nouadhibou to advance to quarter-finals
Mamelodi Sundowns secured a 2-0 win over Nouadhibou in a Caf Champions League Group A match away at Stade Cheika Boidiy Stadium on Saturday.
The Brazilians made a strong start, applying pressure on the hosts’ defence right from the beginning. Defender Grant Kekana eventually opened the scoring midway through the first half with a close-range shot from a free-kick delivered by Marcelo Allende.
The visitors maintained their attacking momentum and went into halftime leading 1-0.
During the second half, Sundowns persisted in their efforts to extend their lead, but the home team showed resilience, thwarting their opponent’s opportunities.
However, the dynamics shifted in added time when Thembinkosi Lorch scored, securing a 2-0 victory for Sundowns. This win ensures Sundowns book their spot in the quarter-finals, but they remain second behind TP Mazembe in Group A on the head-to-head record.
Masandawana head next to South Africa and redirect their attention to the Premier Soccer League as they prepare for their upcoming match against AmaZulu on Tuesday, February 27.
Sundowns currently lead the log standings with 39 points accumulated from 15 matches played.
