CAF Confed. Cup: Cotonsport Held At Home By Masry

The Cotonites couldn’t formulate enough dynamite to blow up what seemed a pretty descent and compact Al Masry side, in group C of the CAF Confederations Cup.

The combative nature of the encounter meant an early yellow card for the men in white.
Oukine Felix, who was making his first start for the side after he captained them to their 15th elite One title last season, picked up an early yellow after Jean Moursou lost the ball, unwittingly – in the center of the park.

Al Masry wasn’t just lurking. The Egyptian side created some chances for themselves and had their first sniff at goal, at the 26th minute.

It was Wahba Gad who got his head on a cross flogged in by Mohamed Ahmed, but it went inches past the post.

Cotonsport’s Skipper on the day, Marou Souibou, always a willing runner, had his first sight at goal from a set piece, and he made goalkeeper Ahmed Abdel Wahab work, with a low drive.

Al Masry on the other end nearly broke the deadlock after a defensive mix-up from Ngomo and Goni. Mohamed Ahmed just like earlier in the first quarter, missed, though not by much.

The game was dragged to the pose at zero-all.

In the second segment,
substitute Daouda kamilo and Souibou both missed glorious chances on the same passage of play, that led to a corner for Cotonsport at the 69th minute. The corner whipped in – caused, aguably the best chance of the game that fell to Cotonsport’s defender, Herve Ngomo. The center – half headed wide, unopposed.

Coach Souleymanou was throwing all his arsenal in the mix, and that led to intense pressure on Al Masry, from Cotonsport. Another second half substitute for Cotonsport, Wassou Gouegoue missed a header coming in from the far post, after a perfectly weighted ball in the middle, from Youssoufa Houzaifi.

With 3 minutes to the end, Kamilou was left fuming after Souibou failed to pick his run early, which would have had the marksman open scores.

Kamilou later on had no excuse for himself as he missed what looked on the naked eye to be a simple tap-in on the whistle (90th minute).

Elsewhere in group C, TP Mazembe defeated AS Otoho in their group C opener. Cotonsport will travel next to Kinshasa to face AS Otoho on February 23rd.
