CAF Confed Cup: Cotonsport Lets Slip In Two-All Draw Against Mazembe

After having led twice, Coton Sport disappointedly ended up with (2-2) draw in the last minutes against TP Mazembe on Sunday in Garoua, in match day 4 of the group stage in the CAF Confederations Cup.

Having embarked poorly with bad results in Congo prior to match day 4 of the CAF Confederations Cup, the situation hasn’t gotten better for Cotonsport.

With victory in hand, the Cotonites’ hopes vanished in the very last moments of the match, when Mondeko Zatu equalized at the 95th minute.

The Cameroonian club had however started the game well. Aboubakar Souleymanou’s men knew they had to get the upper hand on their opponents right from the whistle. At the 15th minute, Souaibou Marou scored the game’s opener.

Patient Wassou then went on to make a poor decision that cost his side. Instead of passing to a free Marou in front of the empty net, he choosed to strike and it went wide, at the 32nd minute.

Enterprising at the start, Cotonsport completely broke down after that miss from Wassou.

Fortunately, the break gifted Cotonsport a much needed gas in their tank.

Oukine and co multiplied attempts in the opposing camp, but lacked efficiency in the final third.

Faced with the lack of a solution, Aboubakar Souleymanou decided to throw two new players into the field.

A coaching that paid off on the spot since it is Abdouraman, who came in to action, that started the move for a second goal.

A burst of acceleration down the right side followed by a powerful cross got a piece of Masengo, whose legs were tangled, and he beat his keeper at the 67th minute.

Cotonsport cthen believed they were headed for their first victory in the tournament, when suddenly, in the last seconds of the game, Mondeko took advantage of loss of concentration to equalise at the 95th minute.

The Garoua based club remains last in group C (3 points) after another draw from a winning position on Sunday at home, against the Congolese reps. TP Mazembe.
