CAF Confed Cup: Mazembe Outsmart Cotonsport

Cotonsport lost to TP Mazembe in their third outing of the CAF Confederation Cup in group C, after having done the bulk of the work to contain Mazembe in chunks of the game.

Cotonsport was under immense pressure from the whistle and the first glaring chance fell for Mazembe, when Glody Likonza’s header from Ngimbi’s cross went a whisker away.

Cotonsport’s first and only shot on target came from the right boot of Eno Brandon after the 20th minute mark, but goalkeeper Mounkoro was alert to the danger.

The onslaught of attacks continued from Mazembe. There were lots of screams of frustration at the 33rd minute when Kitambala Bola struck the bar, and Likonza’s follow-up met a goal line clearance from Herve Ngomo.

41 minutes in, Mazembe was clear on their stands and wouldn’t take no for an answer. Kinzumbi’s left footed drive was parried by goalkeeper Allambatnan, as the first half drew to a close.

After the pose, chances were few and far between with Cotonsport playing defensive.

The ball eventually hit the net from Mazembe’s point of view at the 70th minute from Masengo, but it was ruled for offside.

With four minutes to the end, the Cotonites went napping when a cross drilled from the left met Likonza Glody for a simple tap-in.

Cotonsport tried to come out of their shell but it was a little too late as the game ended 1-0. Cotonsport are bottom of group C with 2 points, as Otoho beat Al Masry 1-0 to move third while Mazembe top the group.
