CAF Confed. Cup: Supersport misfires in defeat to USMA
SuperSport United were left to rue their chances at they were at the mercy of reigning Caf Confederation Cup champions USM Alger.
It did not take too long for the defending champions to stamp their authority in this tie as they opened the scoring as early as the fifth minute. It was defender Saadi Redouani who found the back of the net to give the visitors the advantage
USMA went into the break with their noses in front and they continued where they left off as soon as the second stanza commenced. In the 56th minute, Brahim Benzaza doubled up for Alger to add to the frustration of United as they lost 2-0 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.
Coach Gavin Hunt tried to tilt the tie in his favour as he brought on players like Godspower Ighodaro and Lyle Lakay just after the hour mark, but none of them were good enough on the day to help United in any way as the visitors walked away with all the points.
