CAF Confederations Cup: Imad Riahi’s strike gifts Berkane the advantage ahead of second leg quarter-finals against ASEC

Moroccan football club Renaissance Sportive de Berkane (RSB) secured a precious 1-0 away victory against Ivorian hosts ASEC Mimosas in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup quarter-finals.

The first half at Felix Houphouët-Boigny Stadium ended in a goalless draw as both teams struggled to break through opposing defenses despite several attempts.

At the beginning of the second half, Renaissance Berkane’s offense made the club close to opening the scoring. Ayoub Khairi and Youssef Mehri’s efforts to reach the opponent’s net were averted by the Mimosas’ goalkeeper.

Coach Moïne Chaâbani’s squad maintained ball possession as they searched for a winning goal.

Their persistence paid off when Imad Riahi capitalized on a defensive error to score the decisive goal for RSB in the 75th minute.

RSB will host ASEC Mimosas on April 9 for the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup quarter-finals at Berkane Municipal Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 8:00 pm Morocco time.

As they aim to advance further in their quest for continental glory, the Moroccan side now holds a significant advantage heading into the second leg on home soil.

This away win could prove crucial in determining which team progresses to the semi-finals of Africa’s second-tier club competition.
