CAF discplinary actions falls heavy on Diatta and Hamari Traoré

The gavel has fallen at the 2024 Africa Cup of Nations, settling not just the tournament champion but also disciplinary matters.

While Cameroon escaped unscathed, other teams weren’t so fortunate, facing fines and suspensions handed down by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Disciplinary Board.

The board reviewed cases of misconduct and guideline violations, issuing judgments against players and federations.

However, several other teams weren’t so lucky.

Mali and Ivory Coast clash (Match No. 47)

Tempers flared during Mali’s encounter with host nation Ivory Coast.

The Fédération Malienne de Football was charged with misconduct due to their players’ unsportsmanlike behaviour towards the match official.

Player Hamari Traoré was specifically singled out and found guilty, resulting in a four-match suspension with two matches deferred for a year. Additionally, the Malian federation was fined $10,000 USD.

Ivory Coast, despite being the hosts, weren’t exempt from consequences.

Their federation also faced a $5,000 USD fine for team misconduct, highlighting the seriousness of the incidents during the match.

Senegal vs Ivory Coast showdown (Match No. 42)

The highly anticipated clash between Senegal and Ivory Coast had repercussions beyond the final score. Post-match comments by Senegalese player Krepin Diatta landed him in hot water.

CAF took action, charging Diatta with bringing the organization into disrepute.

Found guilty, he received a four-match suspension, with two matches on hold for a year, and a hefty $10,000 USD fine.

Additionally, the Fédération Sénégalaise de Football received a $5,000 USD fine for team misconduct.

The Super Eagles were one of the most well-behaved teams at the tournament both on and off the pitch, and this time, there was no issue from CAF or internal wrangling about allowances and bonuses.
