CAF EXCO Elections: Wallace Karia Trailblazing!
The Council for East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA) president, Wallace Karia, will cross unopposed for one of six available seats on the Confederation of African Football (CAF) executive committee in today’s elections.
Scheduled to take place in Cairo today March 12, the elections will allow CAF member associations to vote for the confederation’s president and members of the executive committee.
Unlike the executive committee elections, the CAF presidency race remains uncontested, as Patrice Motsepe is the sole candidate.
While the CAF presidency is a foregone conclusion, the competition for the six available seats on the executive committee is partially sorted, with five candidates running unopposed while two others will complete the team.
Wallace has showed succinct managerial ability from Tanzania, as FA president and the CECAFA region as well.
Having assumed the Tanzania FA office in 2017, Wallace Karia changed the narrative and made local leagues in Tanzania amongst the continent’s best, with the likes of: Azam, Simba and YANGA, constantly representing at CAF inter-club competitions to good effect.
When elected, Mr. Karia will earn an annual compensation of 130m/-, a sum allocated to all CAF executive committee members.
Karia’s election would strengthen East and Central Africa’s influence within African football’s governing body.
