CAF Super Cup: Al Ahly Beat Raja Athletic On Penalties To Retain Trophy

Egyptian heavyweights, Al Ahly Sports Club have beaten Botola Pro side Raja Casablanca 6-5 after post match penalties to lift the CAF TOTALEnergies Super Cup for a second successesive time.

Raja arrived the Ahmed Bin Ali Stadium Doha with hopes of backing home the coverted prize for a third time.

The Eagles had the lead in the 13th minute and preserved it untill deep into the second half when Taher Mohamed drew both sides level with the last kick.

High quality penalty shoot-outs followed suit with both goalkeeper unable to make a save from the first five.

Abdeliah Madkour lifted Raja’s sudden narrowly above the crossbar, confirming Al Ahly’s victory on 6-5.

The game was a pure domination of Al Ahly as the Moroccans retreated to defend after moving ahead through an own goal Yasser Ibrahim early in the encounter.

Mgady Afsha, Hussein El Shahat and Percy Tua tested Anas Zniti in both segments but the later succeed in repelling the attempts.

“We did practice penalties and took them as practiced. It was tough but we thought it was going to be so,” coach Pitso said.

“I must thank the players, my technical team and supporter,” he added.

Pitso Motsimane counts a successful 2020/21 with Cairo based club, wining the CAF Champions League for a record tenth time, finish second in the Egyptian Premier League, runners up in Egyptian Supervisor Cup, Eight CAF Super Cup and a FIFA Club World Cup to play.
