CAF Unveils “ITRI” — The Official Match Ball for AFCON 2025
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially unveiled ITRI, the match ball for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), which will be hosted by Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
Inspired by Morocco’s centuries-old zellij art form famous for its intricate geometric mosaics ITRI embodies both the unity and passion that define African football. The name, meaning “star” in the Amazigh (Berber) language, pays homage to the star on the Moroccan flag and the celestial patterns that feature prominently in traditional zellijcraftsmanship.
CAF’s Creative Development Manager, Mohamed Ghonemi, described the new ball as a perfect blend of African energy and Moroccan artistry. “Created for the rhythm of African football, the AFCON 2025 ball brings together art, motion, and a design shaped by African spirit and Moroccan craftsmanship,” Ghonemi told CAFonline. “
It’s been a privilege to collaborate with PUMA on something that unites every nation at the tournament through a shared sense of connection.”
ITRI will make its official debut when host nation Morocco faces Comoros in the opening match of the 2025 AFCON on Sunday, December 21, marking the start of another exciting chapter in African football history.
