The latter’s partnership with Ngadeu in the heart of the defense was immense for the Lions, as they didn’t concede on Tuesday.

In Patrice Baumelle’s post match presser, he mentioned that the Lions had a solid back – line, reason why his strikers found difficulties breaking through.

Onguene, who had previously played seven games for the Lions before Tuesday’s decider, lastly started a game for Cameroon on the 26th of March 2021, as the Lions lost away to Cape Verde.

Haller scored a brace in the first leg and needed quite some stopping, if the Lions were to sail through to the Qatar 2022 knockout rounds.

Faced against Sebastien Haller, Onguene did a brilliant job in man marking, and winning aerial battles, that stopped Haller, who is the second leading goal – scorer in the Champions League, from scoring to his goal tally.

Onguene was thrown into the mix and needed no time to show what a classy defender he is.

Not just for country. Jerome Onguene has been a big part of what Matthias Jaissle has been doing so far. Salzburg has been invincible in the league till this point, and has accumulated 1,000 minutes in 12 games across all competitions.

Jerome is courted by Wolfsburg. The German side have made him their main target for the winter transfer window.
