Cameroon cup: Minnows Stade Bandjoun oust stade Bertoua

West regional outfit Stade Bandjoun are through to the semis of this year’s Cameroon cup after a 4-3 shootout victory (after 0-0 full-time) over Stade Bertoua on Saturday, June 17.

It was indeed a tight affair at the Omnisport Annex 1 stadium between two teams of different categories; Stade Bertoua (Elite 2), and Stade Bandjoun (West regional Championship), equivalent to the country’s third tier.

Franklin Essambe between the sticks managed to parry an attempt, and one other was missed by the East side, as they were denied an advancement into the semis.

Stade Bandjoun have been trail blazing and the only regional league team left in the Cameroon cup, are well on course of going all the way.

Stade Bandjoun have had a scintillating run in the championship after eliminating giants like Bamboutos FC.

The last regional league outfit that produced such a performance was Victoria United in 2017, where they played the Cameroon cup semis, before being defeated to eventual winners New Stars.

Up next for minnows Stade Bandjoun is either PWD or Dynamo Football Club of Douala, in a match up that will be settled on Sunday, June 18.
