Cameroon Cup: PWD through to semis after dramatic shootout against Dynamo
Thomas Etta Bawak finished every optimism left in Dynamo with his converted spot-kick after the game ended one-all to spark joyous scenes at the Ngoa Ekelle stadium on Sunday.
PWD of Bamenda labored with a one-all draw in the regular 90 minutes, but eventually sailed through to the semis of the Cameroon cup after a 6-5 penalty win over Dynamo.
There is no Hollywood finish to Dynamo’s blistering campaign but the Douala based outfit took it right down to the wire.
In fact, it was the Bondbadjop who took the lead at the 18th minute through the educated left foot of Prosper Nlend.
The newly promoted Elite one side saw their lead last barely four minutes as left back, James Tendoh equalized.
It was not going to be 1979 Déjà Vu as the men of Constantine Bep dug deep to contain an enthusiastic Dynamo, fresh from dismissing Avion in the round of 16s.
There was however nothing to separate the both sides in the remainder of the game, and spot-kicks were set to be the adjudicator.
Dynamo missed two of her kicks, while the Abakwa Boys missed one. However, the 2020 Elite One champions outscored their adversaries.
PWD will face West regional outfit Stade Bandjoun in the semis, for a right to win a second Cameroon cup trophy, after that of 2021.
