Cameroon – Switzerland: Aboubakar Out Of The Starting XI, Choupo Named Captain

Coach Rigobert Song has left out skipper Vincent Aboubakar in Cameroon’s opening game against Switzerland set for 11 am local time as Cameroon opens their campaign in group G.

The AFCON 2021 top scorer who recorded 8 goals in Cameroon’s journey to bronze on home soil has not managed a goal since coach Rigobert Song took over the team in March.

A star contrast to Aboubakar  is Choupo-Moting who has burst into life for club and country since given a new center forward role.

It was visible from the onset that Aboubakar wasn’t going to start today, especially as there was a last minute change bringing  Oum for Cameroon’s pre match presser, when Aboubakar was earlier booked.

Choupo Moting was on target in Cameroon’s final test game against Panama last week, scoring his 19th goal in 69 appearances.

Andre Onana will start between the sticks, with four defenders shielding him from left to right: Tolo, Castelletto, Nkoulou and Fai.

Oum will roam in his deep lying midfeild role while Anguissa and Hongla will assist the front three.

The skipper today will be Choupo Moting. The Bayern star will be assisted from the wings by Toko and Mbuemo.

Cameroon will be seeking for its first win in the competition since 2002.
