Cameroon Vs. Nigeria: Bisseck ready to PASS his biggest test yet
The red carpet will be rolled out for Coach Jean Baptiste Bisseck’s biggest game in the international scene when the Indomitable Lionesses log horns against the super Falcons in the 3rd round Olympic qualifiers this Friday.
Last season’s Elite One winner holds his cards close to his chest, despite the game’s difficulty;
“No match is easy, in football anything can happen.” Bisseck started on the eve of the game before adding: “It’s a competition you know, today in modern football there are hardly advantages of home matches.” Bisseck stated, when asked about the “so called” home advantage, as Cameroon receives the home game at the Bepanda reunification stadium this February 23rd.
“We are prepared to play Nigeria. We will face a good team with excellent players. I remain faithful to my convictions. I must bring out a team which will be ready to defend the colors of Cameroon.
“We are still building a group for the future. I don’t want to run faster than the music.
” Cameroon is a football nation just like Nigeria. We learn everyday. Football is not played only on paper, but on the pitch…” Jean Baptiste Bisseck opined.
In the last couple of years, women’s football was hotly contested between Cameroon and Nigeria in the continent.
Now, Cameroon has ungraciously fallen, even missing out on the WAFCON 2024 for the first time since the country started participating in the competition.
Nigeria defeated Cameroon in the 2016 WAFCON on home soil to clinch the trophy before thousands of cameroonians.
That defeat, was one of many. It’s safe to say that the Indomitable Lionesses don’t particularly look forward to meeting the Super Falcons on the field.
Nigeria won the last three encounters between these sides without conceding any goals. They won five of their last six clashes with Cameroon, keeping five clean sheets in the process.
The most recent encounter between these teams took place two years ago, at the quarter-final of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON 2022).
All in all, these teams have met 11 times, and Nigeria won nine of those skirmishes, with two losses.
On the positive side, both of Cameroon’s wins came at home, so they’ll fancy their chances against the Super Falcons.
Bisseck will engage in the game without go-to-lady Ajara Njoya, who is out injured. Her replacement, Flora Alice has bagged 15 goals in the local Championship for Ebolowa FC, but she is yet to make an impression with the national team.
