Cameroon Vs. Nigeria: Paseiro prescribes panacea to defeat Cameroon
Coach Jose Paseiro believes his team will defeat Cameroon if his side concedes less in the classic AFCON fixture set for Saturday, January 26.
Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro wants to see his team survive Cameroon unscathed in the AFCON 2023 round of 16.
Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro has laid out his tactical priorities ahead of Nigeria’s crunch Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON 2023, tie against Cameroon on Saturday
Nigeria will renew its rivalry with the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon when they take to the pitch in one of the keenly anticipated clashes in the AFCON 2023 round of 16.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Peseiro stressed the importance of defensive solidity and clinical finishing in the knockout round showdown.
“I don’t want to concede goals tomorrow, I want to score at least one,” the Portuguese tactician stated according to sportglitz.com.
“If we do this, we will beat Cameroon,” Peseiro added.
Peseiro’s gameplan is clear – build a resilient foundation at the back to keep the Indomitable Lions at bay, then strike ruthlessly when opportunities arise.
The Nigeria Super Eagles have already shown that they can shut down attacks, having denied hosts Cote d’Ivoire and Guinea-Bissau a sniff at goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali during the group stages.
With a place in the AFCON quarterfinals at stake, Nigeria will be fired up to execute their coach’s strategy and progress to keep the goal of winning a first AFCON in ten years, and a fourth in total, alive.
