Cameroon Women’s Chess Team Clinches Gold, Elevates 39 Places at 45th Chess Olympics”

In a historic triumph at the 45th Chess Olympics in Budapest, Hungary, the Cameroon national chess team emerged victorious, securing the gold medal in the women’s category.

This groundbreaking win, achieved during their fifth participation in the prestigious event, showcased the exceptional skills of Magne Kouakam Sylviane, Danwé Carole, Tchouateu Tankeu Stéphanie, and Wefang Lucrèce, under the expert guidance of Captain Fouda Aristide.

Competing against 33 nations, the indomitable Cameroonian team demonstrated unparalleled prowess, culminating in a thrilling final match victory against Fiji Islands. This triumph not only solidified their status as champions but also established Cameroon as the first African nation to claim gold in the Women’s World Chess Olympiad.

The remarkable success catapulted Cameroon from 152nd to 113th place in the global rankings.

Additionally, the men’s team from Cameroon delivered a commendable performance, advancing their ranking by three places to 139th globally, securing the top position in Africa.

These outstanding accomplishments were met with praise from the President of the Cameroonian Chess Federation, Tanko Eli.
