Cameroon’s media professionals at AFCON 2023
Over the years, Cameroon has produced top media professionals in Africa, and that reputation is currently being enhanced at the TotalEnergies 2023 AFCON.
This 34th edition of the AFCON, four top media professionals from Cameroon were called upon by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), to bring in their know-how in handling the press, and tournament organization.
Angu Lesley Akonwi (CAF MO group C)
Seasoned Journalist and football statistician, Angu Lesley Akonwi was invited as media officer for the AFCON. The CEO of kick442 was stationed at Yamoussoukro, where he worked until the quarter-finals.
Angu trended online after he handled an altercation between the Guinean and Senegalese Journalists that almost amounted to a flight pre match.
Angu has accumulated over a decade of experience and his invitation to Cote D’Ivoire was one amongst many.
The vice president of ISOHSA (second-tier side in Cameroon) was formerly invited by CAF to; CHAN 2020, CHAN 2022 and AFCON 2021. Between these, he acted as speaker at the Qatar 2022 World Cup, amongst others.
Angu is a top professional and his style and professionalism makes him difficult to look past when they’re events on the continent.
Faustin Akafack – Accreditation Centers; Abidjan, San Pedro, Korhogo, Yamoussoukro, Bouake
This year, the Confederation of African Football received over 5000 applications from Journalists across the continent to cover this edition of the AFCON.
The person in charge of media accreditations is Fautin Akafack. It is a position he has held since 2019.
Due to massive demands, Akafack hardly left the accreditation center, as he and his team worked all through the night and day, to ensure everyone got their tags and kept going.
Faustin Akafack is generally behind the scenes working, and hardly accepts any sort of praises.
Charlotte Pelagie Eyoum
Charlotte Pelagie works for the CAFonline communications, and assists CAF’s Head of Operations, Luxolo September.
Pelagie’s role is not limited as she is seen although, moderating CAF events, like the Kick and Learn initiative, the CAF press conferences, and ensuring that media works in the best possible conditions.
Before Charlotte’s CAF appointment, she covered the 2018 WAFCON in Ghana amongst many other events on the continent. Her peculiarity is fluency in different languages and work flexibility.
Charlotte Pelagie Eyoum is known for her passion; working even under the scorching sun in Abidjan, and her approach that brings out the best from media professionals.
Wiliam Tchango (content creator at Ebimpe)
Wiliam Tchango did his second competition for CAFonline after making his debut at the U17 TotalEnergies AFCON hosted by Algeria last year.
Tchango created content at the Ebimpe stadium and permitted readers of CAF online to read about games and other side attractions in that site.
He has left a mark in Cameroon, covering top sports events around the globe.
Wiliam formerly worked for lionindomtable.com, Footazimut, and most recently, Africa Foot United, where he was coordinator in central Africa.
The experienced journo covered the AFCON in Gabon, Egypt and Cameroon. He equally covered the 2022 world cup for Africa Foot United.
These four media professionals sailed the flag of Cameroon high in Abidjan and as usual, left imprints in the competition.
The AFCON draws to a close on Sunday February 11, when hosts Cote D’Ivoire take on bitter rivals Nigeria in the grand finale.
