Carlos Queiroz Quits As Pharaohs Coach

Carlos Queiroz has officially stepped down his role as coach of the Egyptian national team. The Portuguese technician announced his departure through a message posted on social media handles.

Appointed on September 2021, the 69-year-old coach leaves his post in the wake of the defeat of the Pharaohs against Senegal on penalties, on Tuesday in Dakar, synonymous with non-qualification to the final phase of the 2022 World Cup set to take place in Qatar.

In February, the former coach of Colombia had led the Mohamed Salah and co to the final of the African Cup of Nations, which they lost against Senegal.

“The dream is over. We have done our best but it wasn’t enough. From the bottom of my heart, I thank the Egyptian Federation for this honor of having coached the national team. To all my players and my staff, my gratitude and humble thanks. You will always be in my heart. I have been privileged to work with and be helped by such dedicated and knowledgeable professionals and wonderful friends. Without you, nothing would have been possible for me in life. I’m very proud of you guys. My best wishes and immense gratitude to all the Egyptian fans.” Wrote coach Queiroz.
