“Cat amongst Pigeons”: FECAFOOT postpones Playoffs amidst confusion
The play-offs for the 2023/2024 professional championships will ultimately not kick-start from Saturday March 16, 2024.
The Cameroon Football Federation (FECAFOOT) has postponed sporting events until March 22, as announced by the General Secretary of FECAFOOT.
“The General Secretary of the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT) informs the public that the MTN Elite One & Two Play-Offs initially scheduled to start on Friday March 15, 2024 are postponed to Friday March 22, 2024,” states a press release signed by Blaise Djounang.
The same source also specifies that “the details related to the programming will be communicated later”.
The confirmation of the postponement of the play-offs comes at a time when Cameroon football is at the heart of an age fraud and dual identity scandals.
Moreover, the Association of Professional Clubs contacted the Minister of Sports and Physical Education in a letter to request the nullification of the 2023-2024 professional football championship season.
It should also be noted that several clubs have obtained decisions from the Chamber of Conciliation and Arbitration of the National Olympic and Sports Committee of Cameroon which upsets the rankings and eliminates Victoria United from the race for the playoffs in favor of Fauve Azur.
The Mtn Elite Two 2023-2024 play-off matches were scheduled to start this weekend in the West. The playoff down for the teams fighting for survival were scheduled to be held in Yaounde while Douala was to host the eight teams vying for the title ultimate crown.
