CHAN 2022: Debutants Madagascar Advance To Quarter-Finals

Debutants Madagascar comfortably defeated Sudan 3-0 in the final group C game of the TotalEnergies African Nations Championship on Monday January 23.

The victory gave coach Felix Roro’s team the lead in a three-team Group C ahead of Ghana. Sudan ends third outside qualification slots while Morocco are bottom of the group after withdrawal from the competition.

Madagascar’s victory over Ghana surprised many but the Barea were more than convincing against Sudan on Sunday, at the Mohamed-Hamlaoui stadium.

Facing Sudan, twice bronze medalist in CHAN (2011 and 2015). Madagascar making her debut did not panic.

An action packed first half had Madagascar rain goals against a depleted Sudan.

Tokinantenaina Randriatsiferana opened the scoring in the first quarter of an hour (13th), Solomampionona Razafindranaivo added to the score 30 minutes in and Lalaina Rafanomezantsoa made sure it was beyond Sudan’s reach at the 33rd minute.

Madagascar advances from group C, with a hundred percent record after two wins and a default victory over Morocco (3-0).

Madagascar will pit Mozambique on January 28. Mozambique ended runners-up of Group A behind Algeria.

Ghana, second in Group C, awaits group E winners that very much has Cameroon and Niger still in the running.
