Chris Hughton Appointed Black Stars Boss

Chris Hughton has been appointed the new head coach of the Ghana national team, the Black Stars.

The former Brighton and Newcastle United manager will be assisted by ex-Aston Villa midfielder George Boateng and Mas Ud Didi Dramani.

With over thousands of applications received for the vacant job, the Ghana Football Association selected the former Northern Ireland player as coach of the Black Stars.

“The Ghana Football Association has the pleasure to appoint Chris Hughton as Head Coach of the Black Stars following extensive deliberations between the two parties,” wrote the FA on their official website. “The appointment is in line with the vision of the GFA to continue with the project of building a formidable squad that started with Otto Addo in the lead up to the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

“Mr. Hughton has been the Technical Advisor of the Black Stars for the past twelve months.” The Black Stars will return to action in March for the double-header of AFCON qualifiers against Angola. Hughton accepts technical advisor role Earlier, Sportglizt reported that the reason why former Newcastle manager Chris Hughton accepted a role to become Ghana’s technical advisor for the Nigeria clash has been revealed. After Ghana’s abysmal performance at the Africa Cup of Nations, the Black Stars were searching for a new coach after the sacking of Milovan Rajevac, with Hughton being one of the rumoured options to take over.

However, the Ghana Football Association settled on Otto Addo as the caretaker coach of the Black Stars with Chris Hughton acting as the technical advisor.
