Christian Bassogog Justifies His Presence In The Lions Den

With less than 20 minutes of the ball game, Christian Bassogog climbed off the bench to score a brace in the Lions’ victory over Malawi this afternoon, at the Orlando stadium in Joburg.

The 26 year old winger who came under a lot of stick after being called up by Lions gaffer – Antonio Conceiçao, has gotten himself off the hook with a sublime performance.

Bassogog’s first of two goals, that make it three – nil for the Lions in the game, portrayed how technically sound the winger is, plus, a wonderful show of strength, to muscle off Mlimbika, before putting the ball past an advancing Brighton Munthali.

After his first goal at the 85th minute, then came the second, at the 86th minute. Having been put clean by a perfectly weighted pass from Lea Siliki, the winger dropped the shoulders and just curled one past Munthali for 4-0 Cameroon.

The joy on the faces of Christian’s teammates were imminent as coach Conceiçao and captain Vincent Aboubakar – who was subbed earlier on, were seen punching the air.

Antonio Conceiçao had told press men in Yaounde that, he prefers taken his ‘warriors along, and Bassogog is one of them.’

Both goals took the 2017 Most Valuable Player’s tally to 5 goals in 29 games played with the senior men’s national team.
