Christopher Wooh relives emotions after late winner against the Gambia

Christopher Wooh has talked through his emotions after scoring a late winner against the Gambia in the last group C AFCON game.

The 22-year old Stade Rennais defender slotted from close range amid a mixed up in defense in borrowed time (90+1) to see the Indomitable Lions safely through to the AFCON round 16.

The goal was Wooh’s second in a national team jersey after he scored against Burundi in the AFCON qualifiers.

“Its incredible emotions we went through, and I think its a good signal going forward.

Our mental toughness made the difference. After the first half, the score was zero-all. We told ourselves we needed to remain calm and the goal will eventually come. The goal came and they later took the lead, but we came back.”

Christopher Wooh has been heavily bandaged on his right thigh, but he was voted Man of the Match against the Scorpions of Gambia, after possibly scoring the biggest goal of his life.

“It would have been easier but we are cameroonians and we like winning with emotions.

“The objective was to fist of all win. Now we are into another competition (knockout) and we will try to win our 6th AFCON trophy,” Wooh ended.

Christopher Wooh and teammates will now face group A runners-up Nigeria, in Abidjan, on Saturday, January 27th.
