Copper Queens nudge successive Olympic games ticket after win against Morocco
Zambia has now qualified for a second successive Olympic games after defeating Morocco in the reversed fixture.
Zambia qualified for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, edging Morocco out of the tournament in a thrilling match on Tuesday in the Prince Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat.
The match ended in a 2-0 win for Zambia, and a 3-2 lead on aggregate.
The epic match kicked off on a strong note, with both teams looking to gain an early advantage. However, the game continued on a 0-0 stalemate for most of the first half.
In the 38th minute, Zambian forward Barbra Banda pushed her team to the lead, netting the first goal in the match.
In the second half of the match, the Moroccan team dominated the possession, making multiple on-goal shots. Despite their apparent advantage, they failed to score a goal.
As the game ended in a draw, Zambia secured their victory goal in the extra time, with team captain Banda scoring the second goal in a penalty, giving the Copper Queens a 2-0 lead against Morocco and a 3-2 lead on aggregate.
Morocco had scored an early lead, winning 2-1 in the first leg of the qualifiers.
