Ekambi Joins Wooh At Stade Rennes On A Season Long Loan
Lyon have this afternoon announced that forward Karl Toko Ekambi has left the club on a loan deal to Rennes until the end of the season, a statement confirmed by Stade Rennes.
Ekambi will unite with his countryman and indomitable Lions prodigy Christopher Wooh, who came into the ranks of the club last summer for the sum of £ 9.00 million.
For Ekambi, 31, the Bretons will pay a loan fee of €1.5m, with potential bonuses adding €1m to that figure, and will take on the entirety of his wages during that time. The deal does not include an option to make the move permanent.
Rennes had been in the market for a forward this winter in the wake of Martin Terrier’s season-ending injury, while Arnaud Kalimuendo is also out of action. Toko Ekambi has been somewhat out-of-favour of late at Lyon, his poor performances seeing fans turn against him.
This year, he has four Ligue 1 goals, having registered 14 and 18 in all competitions in his two full seasons at the club. The Cameroon international had joined Les Gones from Villarreal, having spent a year and a half in Spain after moving from Angers.
