Ekoi Manfred Deservedly Gets U23 Call-up

20 year old YOSA goalkeeper, Ekoi Manfred has been called to camp by head coach Guy Fetchine as the U23 Lions look to complete a job against Angola on October 30.

The former U17 AFCON winner had a sublime game in YOSA’s second championship game against Union Sportif of Douala, thus his call-up.

Manfred comes in after a the video that went viral on social networks, with the staff chosing to exclude five players; Bruno MBIANDJEU (goalkeeper), AVOM, Benjamin BIELEU, NDONG and Yvan DJANTOU.

Manfred comes in as a straight replacement for Nice goalie, Mbiandjeu, who was his replacement at the U17 category.

It is only a fortnight ago that Yong Sports Academy of Bamenda held talks and entered an agreement to sign the latter

20-year-old Manfred returned home to give a new breath of fresh air to his career after a two year spell in Spain where he played for Spanish third-tier side UP Langreo.

For starters, Manfred has previously bagged two zonal youth tournament titles with Cameroon, in addition to the 2019 U17 AFCON where his heroics in the 5-aside, post-match penalties helped Cameroon to gold in Tanzania.

Manfred was equally part of Cameroon’s squad that eventually took part in the 2019 Under-17 world cup in Brazil.

Cameroon have the job half complete, but must avoid defeat against Angola to see them through to the finals of the U23 AFCON.
