Elite One: 10-Man Union Defeat Fovu

The 10 men of Union Sportif of Douala ran out one-nil winners over Fovu club of Baham in game day 16 of group B in the MTN Elite One championship.

The game was billed the ‘top match’ by organisers and lived up to its status with nail biting moments from both teams.

Heartbeats at the Reunification doubled in the late kick off when a straight red was shown to Belleck at the 29th minute.

Given Fovu’s qualities, Union was written off too early but the more the game went on, doubts crept in the minds of Guy Djiepnang’s men.

Noted for his tactical master-class in countless occasions, Oumarou Sogba showed the nation just how good a thinker man he is.

The gaffer threw Intermediate Lions forward Guy Eyike into the fray in the second segment.

The latter subsequently scored the all most important goal in the 62nd minute and Union held on to win 1-0.

The victory was Union’s first this second round and takes them to 6th, one point lesser than opponents on the day – Fovu, who are placed 5th.

Union pits group leaders Bamboutos next on Sunday March 19th.
