Elite One: Aigle Royale Falls Short of Glory
By Ngome Michael
Matchday-18 went down in Group A with a sky battle battle between the Eagles of Menoua and Doves from the South which ended in a virgin draw that benefited Richard Towa’s squabs.
Colombe did the needful by avoiding defeat, going ahead to secure a playoff ticket at the expense of Gaston Temfack’s team on a second round resurgence that almost led them into top four.
Qualification didn’t come on platter for Randy Ntuwe and co as they were on the receiving end of a physically fit captain Christian Mvogo led Aigle team in dire need of victory, the sole route to qualifying for the playoffs.
Chadian international, Amine Hiver spearheaded charges on Colombe’s defense in the first half. Shaken in midfield, Richard Towa kept repositioning his foals on the field.
Idriss Nfor was called into action late in the last segment, repeling header on target from Amine Hiver. El Pacha,(Aigle Royale) goalkeeper, Samuel Nkono, replicated similar interventions at the othet end, to the delight of the supporters.
At the strike of time nothing seperated both entities but a stalemate was advantageous to Colombe.
Aigle despite missing out on glory, are arguably the most motivated side heading into the relegation playoffs having lost just a single game from their last six.
