Elite One: Ekoi Jonas Watches From The Stands As Astres Share Spoils With USD

Youngster Ekoi Jonas was in the stands during the opener of the MTN Elite One campaign on October 15, as his side – Astres FC drew one-all against City rivals, Union Sportif of Douala.

Astres could do with the winger’s burst of pace and skill in the course of the season, but they only have themselves to blame as they had the game within reach, but let slide.

Coach Tonye Tonye went out for a 4-3-3 formation, setting his side to attack the men of Oumarou Sokba, who himself, opted for the same attacking formation.

Astres FC took the lead at the 10th minute. It came in from a throw in from the left, perfectly executed by Aboudi, then Jules Kooh showed pure poacher’s instincts when he latched at the ball, wiggled his way to the byline, and toe poked beyond Haschou Kerrido.

From a collective perspective, Astres played better as a unit, and it was clear that USD needed some individual brilliance to get back to level terms.

At the 20th minute, Joel Paten took control of the ball from over 24 meters and wowed everyone with an absolute worldie of a goal. No one expected it. Not even Narcisse Nlend who could stare as the ball nettled in the back of the net.

The game ended 1-1. Astres will face Gazelle in the next round of fixtures that comes up next weekend in group B.
