Enock ‘Computer’ Mwepu Forced To End Football At 24

Zambia skipper and Brighton & Hove Albion star Enock Mwepu, nicknamed the ‘computer’ due to his quick thinking ability in the middle of the park, has been forced to retire from football – following a diagnosis of a hereditary heart condition.

Having been left out in the past few games from Brighton’s squad, the shocking news was confirmed earlier today, Monday October 10.

The player has stressed on the fact that despite the decision being difficult to take in, he and his team eventually had to make it.

‘A boy from a small Zambian township called chambishi has some news to share. He stood strong to follow his dream of playing football at the highest level, and by the grace of God he lived his dream by playing in the premier league.

Some dreams however come to an end. So it is with sadness that I announce the need to hang up my boots because of the medical advice I have received,’ Enock writes.

The central midfeilder however insists that he wouldn’t absolutely cut all ties with football, as he looks to still contribute to the game in some way.

‘This is however not the end of my involvement in football, I plan to stay involved in some capacity.’

The administration of Brighton have since announced the desperately sad event, with an influx of reactions including that of head coach, De Zerbi.

“I am so sorry for Enock. Before I arrived I looked at all the squad, and he was a player I was so excited and looking forward to working with. We will do everything we can to help him.” Zerbi opines.

Enock Mwepu has managed to get a good career for clubs and country despite an abrupt end.

Mwepu is known for his versatility in the field of play as demonstrated at the 2017 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations hosted and won by Zambia, where he scored a goal and was among the best substitutes of the tournament. He went on to officially be named skipper of the Chipolopolo.

At club level the midfeilder had a successful spell at RB Salzburg from 2017 to 2020, before he joined Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion on a four-year contract, for an undisclosed fee in the summer of 2021. He played six matches this term and dished out an assist this term.
