Equatorial Guinea announce AFCON 2023 final squad
Nigeria Super Eagles’ opponents in Group A of AFCON 2023, Equatorial Guinea, has announced its 27-players squad.
The final team was announced on the Equatoguinean Football Federation media handles on Sunday, December 31, 2023.
Among the players named is defender Marvin Anieboh, whose father is Nigerian and mother Equato-Guinean.
Anieboh plays for Illesca in the Spanish fourth division.
The 26-year-old made his debut for the Equatorial Guinea senior men’s national team in 2019 and has nine appearances.
Goalkeeper Jesus Lazaro Owono of Deportivo Alaves in the Spanish La Liga and Jose Ndong Machin of Monza in Serie A are also in the final squad.
Equatorial Guinea will open their AFCON 2023 campaign against the Super Eagles on January 14.
This will be their fourth participation in the AFCON after their debut in 2012 as co-organizer with Gabon.
Additionally, their best performance at the tournament was when they hosted it in 2015 and finished fourth.
