Essa Pius targets goal worth exciting SW football stakeholders

Former Indomitable Lions sweeper, Pius Essa Tabi is targeting unity amongst football stakeholders in the South West region of Cameroon.

In the past years, the football loving population of the South West have seen it all; not just on the pitch, but, off the field connections with antics, sometimes gibberish.

The sportglitz crew was keen on what the latest decision maker in Cameroon Football’s presidency could bring, and in a heartbeat, the erstwhile Prévoyance Yaounde skipper replied, that somehow, he has to attempt reconciliation.

Quite easy to solve the puzzle as a neutral in the South West region at first sight. Perhaps, there are no neutrals as things stand. Either you are for or against the ‘big bosses’. The one time famous solidarity calabash that berthed great teams such as: Tiko United, Mt. Cameroon, Golden Soap FC, Elecspor, Prisons SC to name a few, now hangs on thin ice.

Speaking about the ongoing caricature, Mr. Tabi did not mince words as he has a clear picture in his mind, of what he needs to do.

“I don’t know how I will go about it, but I think I’ll attempt to bring our region the much needed unity.

“I don’t know how long this will take, but I am ready to go the distance,” the business mogul explained on the mic of sportglitz, in the presence of Egypt’s broadcast juggernauts All Time Sports, and local TV station, Hi TV.

The inferior leagues are currently on recess in Cameroon, but an official kickoff date is fixed for January 2024.

Last term, the South West regional league experienced an all time low, as allegations of match fixing and suspensions were the order of the day.

A last minute swoop; bringing in Buea United in place of Fako United for an identification protest that had allegedly not been cautioned, led to many unanswered questions.

In the aftermath of that unprecedented change, Fako United’s SG cum Journalist, Mwambo Edward was handed a suspension having cried foul. Before the playoffs, Option Sports Academy had pulled out citing insecurity’ as a reason when the league had climaxed ahead of their game against Buea United, at the University Field’s second play ground, style-named “Wembley”. According to the rule book, Options dropped two leagues below.

Controversies hit high-tension at the playoffs, when NQSA was bedraggled against Kumba city in the semi finals by match officials.

Former FECAFOOT vice president, Henry Njalla Quan, later declared he was closing the historic football structure after revealing some disturbing facts.

Since all that drama, some masquerade calls for peace have come and gone, with some very crafty individuals even milking the situation for personal benefits.

Weeks back, South West Governor, Mr. Okalia Bilai called for a reconciliation meeting, which unfortunately, appeared to be below par as only the supposed aggressors were given the floor.

Fast forward to a month later, there is still some bad blood roaming in the dark. Victoria United, a one time cherished team in the South West region, now seems off beat, with many accusing it’s president, Nkwain Valentine, of being inept.

As regards the sporting aspect, the South West region bagged home gold at the 2023 National Interpools.

Plying in the country’s second-tier is ISOHSA, while Victoria United are playing the top-flight for the first time in close to 2 decades.

There is room for improvement if Mr. Pius succeeds with his peace and unity road map, but the question remains, can the broken hearts be mended?

Well, his closing statement speaks volumes;

“If there’s a way we can resolve it, I am praying for that to happen. I don’t want to see people plan evil against others.

“I’ve been in the US for 27 years, and my way of reasoning is a little different. I don’t want more damage to be inflicted.

“My role is to try and bring everyone back on the same page, to be the close friends we used to be”.
