Ethiopian FF Adds To Number Of Teams In Women’s, Premier Division

Reports suggests the Football Association of Ethiopia – has decided to extend the number of teams from an initial 11 to 13, in the Ethiopian Women’s premier division.

The announcement came late last week from 49 year old EFF president – Esayas Jira. It is definitely aimed at improving the women’s Championship, especially with recent improvisation from the Confederation Of African Football, as regards the Women’s game.

Here are the teams that will compete in the next Ethiopian Women’s Premier League:

Hawassa
Ethio-Electric
Dire Dawa
Gedeo Dilla
Adama
Addis Abeba
Arba Minch
Akaki Kality
Bahir Dar
Bole Sub-City
St. George SC

The Commercial Bank of Ethiopia represent the country in this year’s biennial TotalEnergies Women’s champions league qualifiers.

They are logged in group B of the Eastern –
League Zonal Qualifiers that was held in Nairobi, Kenya, on July 8.

Commercial Bank(CBE) FC are up against Yei Joint Stars FC from South Sudan and Zanzibar champions New Generation FC.

At national level, the Ethiopia Women’s selection fondly referred to as; Lucy, is currently ranked 112 worldwide as of the Coca Cola FIFA rankings on June 25, 2021.

Ethiopia’s best performance on the continent was back in 2002 and 2004, where they finished third and fourth respectively.
