Eto’o “chase” Njitap out of Lions locker room
In a press release made public on February 2, Synafoc revealed that its president, Geremi Njitap, was confronted with threats from Étienne Tamo, chief protocol of FECAFOOT at the ongoing AFCON in Cote D’Ivoire.
Acting under the orders of Samuel Eto’o, Etienne Tamo allegedly forced Geremi Njitap to leave the Indomitable Lions locker room after the victory against Gambia.
According to information provided by the Synafoc press release, Mr. Étienne Tamo threatened to use violence against the former Cameroonian international if he did not immediately make way.
The president of Synafoc, visited the Indomitable Lions locker room to express his joy, congratulate them and encourage players for the rest of the competition, as specified in the press release from the National Union of Cameroonian Footballers.
The altercation comes in a context where relations between former teammates Samuel Eto’o and Geremi Njitap have been strained for some time.
President of the National Union for Footballers of Cameroon, Njitap, is constantly at the heart of everything concerning football.
In late November and early December 2023, he visited players and clubs to raise awareness and advocate for better working conditions.
At the end of his tour with players, Geremi presented balls to the teams involved. As objective; to remind players that Synafoc is active to protect their “interest”.
Since that event, speculations are rife in Cameroon’s football milieu that Geremi is nursing ambitions to take the reins of the Cameroonian Football Federation currently led by Samuel Eto’o.
That has created a climate of tension between the two men.
Recent events in Cote D’Ivoire shows that all is not well between the two former teammates.
