Europa League: Ekambi & Lyon Through To The Quarter Finals

Toko Ekambi and co were kept in check by FC Porto on Thursday (1-1), in the reverse fixture of the Europa league round of 16, but they made the quarter finals anyways!

The one-nil first leg victory in Portugal was Lyon’s ‘changing water into wine moment’ in the tie, as it went a long way to seeing them through.

Moussa Dembele opened the scoring in the 13th minute of play.

Eduardo Gabriel Aquino, show-named Pepe equalized for the visitors at the 27th minute, but it wasn’t enough.

Olympique de Marseille are the only other team from France, still in contention in the Europa league, while Rennes was already ousted by Leicester.

Toko Ekambi played through all 90 minutes and had a chance for the hosts towards the end, but his attempt was blocked.

Ekambi therefore remains on 6 goals after 8 appearances for his side. The latter is a key figure as the indomitable Lions prepare for their double confrontation against Algeria in the WC qualifiers tie.
