EX Gunner, Adebayor Made CAF Ambassador
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) announced this Monday, February 19, 2024, through its official channels, the appointment of Togolese football legend, Emmanuel Adebayor, as an ambassador of the continental organization. He is now among the CAF ambassadors.
This prestigious appointment confirms the recognition of the expertise and influence of the former captain of the Togo national team in the field of African football.
As the recipient of the prestigious African Player of the Year award in 2008, Adebayor has left an indelible mark on the football landscape of Togo. His tenure as a player witnessed remarkable milestones, including guiding the West African nation to its historic qualification for the 2006 FIFA World Cup. This achievement stands as a testament to Adebayor’s pivotal role in shaping Togo’s football narrative. Notably, the former Arsenal star, who announced his retirement last year, leaves behind a legacy of unparalleled dedication and achievement in the sport.
Emmanuel Adebayor’s designation is part of the recently established CAF Ambassadors Program, aimed at bringing together prominent figures from African football to promote the values and initiatives of the organization.
Last month, African football legends El Hadji Diouf, Asamoah Gyan, Ahmed Hassan, and Augustine ‘Jay-Jay’ Okocha were announced as the first signatories of this innovative program.
CAF Ambassadors, whether football legends, community role models, or other popular personalities, will play a crucial role in promoting African football and CAF. Their mission will include participating in activities such as tournaments, charitable initiatives, commercial, and social events, among others.
