FBF Terminates Contract of Stallions Head Coach Brama Traoré Following AFCON 2025 Exit

The Burkina Faso Football Federation (FBF) has officially announced the dissolution of the national team’s technical department, terminating the contract of Head Coach Brama Traoré and his entire backroom staff.

The decision, confirmed in an official statement on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, follows an extensive performance review of the Stallions’ campaign at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.

Performance Shortfalls and Tournament Exit

The Federation’s move comes in the wake of Burkina Faso’s exit in the Round of 16. A decisive 3-0 defeat to regional rivals Côte d’Ivoire served as the catalyst for the overhaul, with the FBF citing a failure to meet the competitive standards expected of the national selection.

“The results were deemed far short of the objectives set for the national team in this major continental competition,” the FBF stated, emphasizing that the early exit stood in direct contrast to the strategic ambitions established prior to the tournament.

The restructuring affects the entirety of the senior coaching staff. Alongside Traoré, the departing technical team includes:

  • Issa Balboné
  • Pierre Bazié
  • Mohamed Kaboré
  • Wilfried Da

While the FBF acknowledged Traoré’s commitment and service since his appointment in 2024, the federation noted that the team failed to reach the mandated semi-final target. This objective was set to build upon the momentum of previous successful AFCON campaigns.

The Federation has assured stakeholders and supporters that the search for a new leadership team will begin immediately. The priority remains stabilizing the squad and refocusing efforts ahead of upcoming international fixtures and World Cup qualifying cycles.
