FERWAFA: Rwanda To Relief Restriction On Foreign players
The Rwanda FA (FERWAFA) is set to open negotiations over revising the 3-3 rule regarding the restriction of foreign players in the topflight league, following pleas from clubs in the championship.
The move if successful will see clubs being able to field 5 foreign players in the starting lineup.
Flashback to a couple of years back and moves to negotiate the revising of this rule has proved abortive.
On Saturday, October 17, 2020 – at Dove Hotel in Kigali, FERWAFA maintained the 3-3 rule regarding the restriction on foreign players in the topflight clubs.
Since the 2013/2014 campaign, clubs like APR and Police FC have not fielded any foreigners, quite berserk to think.
Under the current rule, clubs are only allowed to field three foreign players in their starting line-ups, and three on the bench.
Some disgruntled teams have raised a motion to revise the rule, arguing that it falls short when it comes to giving competition to home players, and as a result undermines the level of the league and the national team.
