FIFA Club World Cup: Pressure-Driven Ahly Shock Monterrey

Pitso’s lads have shown they are not a flash in the pan in their FIFA Club World Cup opener!

Egypt’s Al Ahly have qualified for the semi-finals of the Club World Cup after a surprise 1-0 victory over
Monterrey, in their opener, amid the tricky circumstances (playing without over 6 senior players) out on international duties.

Ahly are without: Mohamed El Shenawy, Ayman Ashraf, Mohamed Abdelmoneim, Hamdi Fathi, Amr El Solia, and Mohamed Sherif.

The African champions beat Mexican ambassadors – Monterrey (1-0) in the second round, on Saturday, at the Al-Nahyan stadium in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates.

Mohamed Hany scored the game’s only goal at the 53rd minute.

Al Ahly will face Palmeiras, winners of the
Copa Libertadores, on Tuesday, February 8, still at the Al-Nahyan stadium.

This Sunday, Al Hilal, champions of Asia, and Al Jazira, champions of the United Arab Emirates, will face off with Chelsea for a place in the semi-finals.
