FIFA WC: FIFA Warns Tunisia Of Possible Rustication
Fifa has this week sent a letter to the Tunisian Football Federation asking for clarifications.
The World Football Governing body led by Gianni Infantino could decide to exclude the Carthage Eagles in the event of interference by the Tunisian government in the affairs of the management of FTF.
In group D comprising of Australia, Denmark and France, Tunisia could miss – in a scenario that spells disaster.
For starters, the FIFA query came courtesy a statement by the Minister of Youth and Sport Kamel Deguiche.
In conflict with the Tunisian Football Federation, the member of the government threatened to change FTF leaders.
It is interpreted as potential interference that did not please Fifa at all, so much so that the body chaired by Gianni Infantino has officially written to the FTF asking it to shed light on this affair.
“It has been brought to our attention that the state authorities seem to want to interfere in the affairs of the FTF, in particular by considering the dissolution of the Federal Office of the FTF,” states Fifa in its letter addressed to the Tunisian Federation, which was first aired by local radio, Mosaïque FM. “In this regard, we would like to remind you that the member associations of Fifa are statutorily obliged to manage their affairs independently and without undue influence from third parties.” It is most unlikely that minister Kamel continues with the interference. But if he does, a queue of nations including Mali, might just be getting their boots ready.
