Former England U20 WC Winner Lookman Switches To Nigeria

England youth star — Ademola Lookman, a former U20 World Cup winner with England, has been cleared by FIFA to represent the super Eagles of Nigeria in a switch of allegiance in nationality.

The 24-year-old winger can now represent Nigeria at senior category, and he could start with Nigeria’s crunch-clash against Ghana, in next month’s World Cup qualifiers.

It has been a long process for the youngster who wanted the switch since 2018.

The process became more intensed in 2021, as confirmed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) chairman Amaju Pinnick who confirmed that the Leicester City striker started the process of transferring his international allegiance from England to the Super Eagles.

Pinnick revealed part of his conversation with Lookman when he visited the loanee from RB Leipzig and selected other Nigerian players in the UK, and stated that, Lookman loves to don the national team colours.

‘Ademola Lookman is excited to battle for a shirt with the Super Eagles. He loves Nigeria. We will complete the change very soon,’ the NFF boss stated.

There wouldn’t have been a better time for the switch. In what already looks a flamboyant super Eagles roster for coach Eguavoen Augustine, Lookman is now an addition.

The winger will provide more options on the wings for the Super Eagles, who already have players like Moses Simon and Simon Chukwueze.

Nigeria could call on Lookman’s services when they face Ghana on March 23 and March 29. Lookman has scored 3 goals in 14 appearances in the premier league so far this campaign.
