Gambia Vs. Cameroon: “I can stagger, but will not fall” – Rigobert Song
Coach Rigobert Song uttered some strong words in the opening of his post match press conference after Cameroon’s 3-2 win over the Gambia.
“I can stagger, but i will not fall,” were the words of coach Rigobert Song just before he was officially given the mic.
Speaking on how he felt after that incredible rollercoaster of emotions, Rigobert Song added:
” I am going through a lot of emotions. The objective was achieved today, but we have to keep going.”
Quizzed on the instability and lack of consistency in the course of the game, Song said;
“The first and second halves were not the same. We turn to struggle in the first half and get our rhythm back in the second half.”
Another question was thrown at the coach on what he told the players at halftime, that made the team play like they were possessed.
“I spoke as per the small experience I’ve gathered in Football. I told the boys that we don’t have anything to lose. It was the time for everyone to give his best for the team. If anyone was fatigued, I asked them to talk so they could get substituted.”
Song took out time to explain that he and his staff are building a team, and it could only get better.
“We are building a team. It will need that the lads adapt. The players have to go through these difficult moments so that they learn and apply in the future.” This was before a statement was made on what Cameroon has with these kind of special comebacks.
“It is back of our DNA. Historically, when they write us off, that’s when we are most dangerous. I am a young coach. It is when I make errors that I learn. But I think time will give me reason,” the gaffer happily ended.
