GPL: Etouga’s Hat – trick Puts Ash Gold To The Sword

By Ngome Michael

Sunday January 9 will go into the history books of African football as a day meant for Indomitable Lions to excel most on the continent.

While Vincent Aboubakar single handedly devoured the Stallions of Burkina Faso, newly acquired Asante Kototo and former AS Fortuna forward, Etouga Mbella simply replicated the works of his senior in grand style.

The Cameroon Under20 Lion scored his first hattrick in the Ghanian Premier League for Asante Kototo against city rivals, Ashanti Gold.

A balanced opening minutes for both sides as they made equal encroachment into each other’s goal post. It was untill the 20th minute when Amankona(Kototo) from a set-piece was denied by the crossbar.

Etouga went in search of goal at the 25th minute but was denied by the Ashanti keeper. Seven minutes he tried to set up one of his team mates for a counter attack but play was called back for a foul.

Ashanti Gold had their moments before the break but couldn’t covert into goals. A goaless first half it ended.

The Cameroonian became more threatening in the second half, plunging the visitors in trouble.

Breakthrough for Kototo finally came from the spot with Etouga Mbella easily converting after an Ashanti Gold defender illegally used his hand inside the area.

The Porcupine Warriors maintained their lead and searched for more which finally came from a splendid build-up from the back that landed to George Mfegue who set up Etuoga that slotted in a cool finish to make it two.

The Man on fire, Etouga Mbella finally got his hattrick at the 72 minute after a fierce challenge from the Ashgold defence and connected with a low cross from inside the box.

Asante Kototo had control of the game till the 84th minute when the visitors had consolation, 3-1 it finished.

Ever since arriving Ghana in October last year both Mfegue and Etouga have featured in almost every league game for Asante Kototo with latter registering 6goals in more 200 minutes of play.
