Guinea Bissau – Sudan Stalemate Sends Egypt Bottom Of Group D

The zero – all tie between Sudan and Guinea Bissau meant the Pharaohs of Egypt deep to bottom in group D, after match day one.

Egypt had earlier lost against Nigeria (1-0), before Sudan separated on a dead rubber tweet against Guinea Bissau.

As empty as the scoreline looked, there was more to the game.

Guinea Bisau started as favorites, and entered the game on a good footing.

Guinea Bissau’s Joseph Mendes struck the uptight after Piqueti’s delivery from the left, 15 minutes into the game.

Sudan had a couple half chances themselves. Mazim Alnour delivered a perfectly weighted cross for Mohamed Yousif, who missed a free header, having been unable to work the neck muscles enough to beat goalkeeper Maurice.

Sudan remained compact and continued playing long and hopeful balls to marksman Yousif. A long ball from captain Nemer Mahmoud met Yousif who went for the first time volley at the 45th minute, but goalkeeper Maurice was equal to it.

It was however an impossible angle, and had Yousif had scored, it would have been possibly the goal of the tournament so far.

A quiet piqueti for most parts of the game, came to live at the 76th minute with a powerful strike, but it was parried by goalkeeper.

The moment of Truth came for Guinea Bissau in the last 10 minutes of the encounter.

Steve Ambri was brought down just as he took an extra touch before goalkeeper Ali Aboueshren tripped him in the box.

Judilson Mamadu Tuncara, show-named Pele, took, and had his penalty saved by Aboueshren, who vindicated himself.

Minutes after, it took a goal line clearance from Mustapha Mohamed, who put his body on the line, to keep the game at 0-0.

Sudan and Guinea Bissau temporarily occupy second and third spot in the group.
