How A Brewery Company Has Changed Women’s Football In Cameroon

The Guiness Super League Award ceremony is finally here, and begins in a couple of hours at the Hilton Hotel in Yaounde. However is isn’t just about the award, but proper restructuring and organization of the League for a very first time.

Football is a top sport in Cameroon at all categories; testament to this assertion is the involvement of thousands, in the beautiful game.

The women’s game in Cameroon has experienced a twist in fate for the better, after juggernaut brewery company Guiness Cameroon, announced a sponsorship deal with Cameroon’s F.A – FECAFOOT.

Striking decisions have revolutionized the game in this part of the world. Cameroon’s female set up (the Indomitable Lionesses) have been impacted positively, as players no longer mind to return and play for local clubs.

In the just ended season alone, four internationals came back to the country to play; Edjangue Siliki (Ebolowa FC), Farida Machia (AWA), Raissa Mbappe (Caiman Filles), and Meyong Menene (Louves Minproff).

Long lost are the bleak days when a local female footballer got taunted for living their passion without stipends or a monthly take – home packages.

Guiness, through mobile communication network, Orange, sends a minimum of 30 thousand Cameroon Francs (54.55 United States Dollars) to the accounts of these players at the closure of each month, in the football calendar year.

Due to the aforementioned reasons, the season was considered a hit with the campaign now a thing of the past.
