Indomitable Lions: Eto’o To Finally Maintain Coach Conceiçao
After days of uncertainty over who manages the affairs of the Lions from the dugouts, sportsglitz.net can now confirm that FECAFOOT boss Samuel Eto’o Fils will leave coach Antonio Conceiçao as the Lions’ head coach, in an official release to be made public this evening.
EX Lions poacher Samuel Eto’o had earlier asked for a date no later than Saturday February 19 to decide the future of the coach of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, but then extended the deadline to Wednesday, February 23, as he explained on a release. “You have given me 72 hours to decide on the future of Mr. Antonio Conceiçao, Coach of the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon. Due to the game of the Cameroon Women’s national team (AWCON qualifiers – Cameroon – Gambia; editors pick), It is practically impossible for me to have a peaceful reflection and to meet the requirements within the aforementioned time.
‘I would therefore be grateful if you would grant me more time with an announcement date set for Wednesday, February 23, 2022 at 6 p.m.’ the release stated.
Rumours of the appointment of former skipper and current U23 Lions gaffer, Rigobert Song, sent social media agog, and it wasn’t entirely without truth.
This online portal had gathered after a seminar of coaches last week that, talks were ongoing and Song had been approached for the position, after an ‘unsatisfactory’ AFCON for the Lions – who finished as bronze medalists.
Sports minister Narcisse Mouelle
had earlier decided in a broadcast on national television, that the coach was going to be kept in his post at least for the next two matches for the Indomitable Lions against Algeria. He then explained that the emergency is preparations in serenity”.
A release published by Fecafoot which summarized decisions taken on Wednesday 16 by the Executive Committee of the federation in a meeting in Limbe, South west, contradicted the Minister’s words, as Eto’o and his board asked for time to think on whether or not – the coach will be maintained.
It now turns out that the two King makers; Minister of Sports and FECAFOOT boss have settled on leaving the coach.
Now that the spats have supposedly been settled, Conceiçao will look to fix the puzzle.
Algeria and Cameroon will face each other at the end of March in a two-legged play-off for one of five places reserved for Africa in the World Cup in Qatar. Cameroon are in search for a record extending 8th World Cup participation in Qatar.
